Lod is so good! GEMS Girls Club is going great after 2 failed attempts to start other ‘more generic’ girls clubs! Finally, GEMS (Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior) fits us and it’s all about sharing Jesus and developing girls that love Him and have a personal relationship with Him! GEMS is a ministry for women, their friends, and the girls around them. Women and girls everywhere are being challenged to live radically faithful lives – acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God (Micah 6:8 is the club focus). For more info about the club, you may check out the national website at www.gemsgc.org or call the center at 319-653-4700. There is a different theme every year and this year is Choose Truth, based on scripture Psalm 119:105 and the girls are studying the book of Esther. This study focuses on inner beauty, making wise choices, having a submissive spirit, the heart & real love, purity, and identity.
We have so enjoyed seeing the girl’s eyes opened by the word of God, blessed by their openness and also overwhelmed by some of the struggles they face in today’s culture. Our club is being offered to girls, 4th – 12th grade and our mission is to help girls learn how to apply the bible to their everyday challenges, make new friends and share with each other in a caring small group, participate in service projects that make a difference in other’s lives, cultivate important life skills through badge activities, make meaningful crafts, enjoy music along with creative dance and so on. the club is designed to meet the spiritual, social, physical, and emotional needs of each girl.
ONEighty Ministries has been blessed with a wonderful array of women counselors from many different area churches and backgrounds. We currently have 12 girls participating in the club, working hard to earn badges for various activities. The club meets the 1st & 3rd Monday evening, 6 – 8:15 pm at the teen center and enrollment are ongoing. We launched our club with a sleepover at the teen center in August with 14 girls staying and 8 women which was tremendous fun…but not much sleep was had! We praise Jesus for the opportunity to offer GeMs Girls club to our community and we thank on His Path for providing the grant to start the club. We are blessed by your generosity. We thank the lord that through our failure we have a new thriving club for girls that will help change lives.

As they sailed across, Jesus settled down for a nap. But soon a fi erce storm came down on the lake. The boat was fi lling with water, and they were in real danger. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and the raging waves. Suddenly the storm stopped and all was calm. Then he asked them, “Where is your faith?” The disciples were terrifi ed and amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “When he gives a command, even the wind and waves obey him!” Luke 8:23-25 NLT
